FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our 3D printing services. If you don't find what you're looking for, get in touch - we'll answer in plain language.

Ordering & Quotes

How do I get a quote?

Send us a description of your project through the contact form. Attach a CAD file if you have one - STL, STEP, 3MF, or OBJ all work. We’ll come back with a quote within 24 hours on weekdays.

How long until I get a quote?

Most quotes go out within 24 hours of receiving your request, often the same day. Submissions received over the weekend are answered Monday morning.

Are quotes free?

Yes. We don’t charge for quotes, file review, or basic design-for-manufacturing feedback on files you send us.

Do you offer free samples?

We don’t ship sample kits, but we can print a single small test piece in your chosen material at cost so you can verify finish and tolerance before committing to a larger run.

Can I see a print before approving the full order?

Yes. On larger projects we’ll print one piece first, photograph it, and confirm with you before continuing the run.

Files & Design

What file formats do you accept?

STL, STEP, 3MF, and OBJ. We can also work from native files (Fusion 360, SolidWorks) but we convert them to a neutral format before printing.

I don't have a CAD file - can you make one?

Yes. Our Design Assistance service models from sketches, photos, written descriptions, or existing physical objects.

Will you review my file for printability before printing?

Yes. Every file goes through a basic DFM (design-for-manufacturing) review before we print - we check for things that would cause a print to fail or look wrong: thin walls, bad orientations, unsupported overhangs, missing material at junctions, and similar issues. If we spot something, we flag it and suggest fixes before charging you for a failed print. No charge for the review itself.

Do you keep my files? Can you delete them?

By default we keep your files on hand so re-orders and iterations move quickly. If you’d rather we delete them after delivery, just say so in your inquiry.

Do you sign NDAs?

Yes. We’ll sign yours, or we can send you our standard mutual NDA before you transmit anything sensitive.

Materials

What materials do you offer?

PLA, PETG, ABS, and TPU as our standard library. Specialty filaments - wood-fill, metal-fill, glow-in-the-dark, carbon-fibre composites - by request. See Materials for details on each.

Which material is right for my project?

Tell us what the part needs to do - load-bearing, flexible, weatherproof, food-contact - and we’ll recommend a material. Most decorative pieces work well in PLA. Functional parts usually want PETG or ABS. Flexible parts need TPU.

Can I bring my own filament?

On larger production runs, yes. For one-offs we generally print from our stocked materials so we can vouch for the result.

What colors do you stock?

A wide range across our filament library: multiple greens, blues, reds, greys, blacks, whites, and metallics, with finishes from matte to silky to lightly shiny. Available colours and finishes vary by material; we’ll confirm the exact stock for your project at quote time. Custom colours are possible by special order, with a few days added to lead time and a small surcharge.

Do you offer food-safe materials?

We can print in PLA grades that are advertised as food-safe by the manufacturer, but FDM prints have layer-line crevices that aren’t trivial to clean. We don’t recommend FDM parts for direct repeated food contact.

Production & Quality

How big can you print in one piece?

Up to 250 × 250 × 250 mm in a single piece. Larger pieces we print in sections and assemble - we’ll discuss the seam strategy before quoting.

What's your dimensional tolerance?

Typically ±0.2 mm or 0.2% of the nominal dimension, whichever is larger. Tighter tolerances are achievable on critical features - let us know in advance so we can plan orientation and post-machining if needed.

Will my print have visible layer lines?

Yes. FDM prints always show layer lines as a function of the process. The line height we use depends on what you need - 0.08 mm for fine detail, 0.2 mm standard, 0.28 mm for faster turnaround when finish isn’t critical.

Do you offer painting or finishing?

Light finishing - support removal, edge cleanup, basic sanding - is included by default. Painting, complex sanding, vapor smoothing, or assembly are not standard but we can quote them separately when there’s a clear scope.

How do you handle quality control?

Every piece is visually inspected before it leaves the workshop. On batch runs we document print settings and check critical dimensions on a sample of every batch.

Shipping & Returns

Where do you ship?

Standard shipping across Canada and the United States. International shipping is available by request - we’ll quote it case-by-case based on destination and parcel size.

How long does shipping take?

2-7 business days within Canada and the US once the order ships, depending on destination. We use tracked services and send you the tracking number when the package leaves.

Do you offer rush shipping?

Yes. Tell us your deadline in the inquiry and we’ll quote the rush option transparently - both production and shipping rush fees are itemized.

What's your return policy?

Custom prints are made to order and aren’t returnable, but if a piece arrives damaged or doesn’t match what we agreed, we’ll reprint it at our cost. See the full shipping policy for details.

Pricing

How much does custom 3D printing cost?

It depends on the part - material, print time, size, and quantity all factor in. See our pricing approach for ranges by service. Quotes are free and itemized so you can see exactly what you’re paying for.

Are there volume discounts?

Yes. Per-unit cost drops as quantity goes up. We’ll typically quote 25, 50, 100, 250, and 500-unit price points side by side on a small-batch inquiry so you can see the breakpoints.

Do you charge for design changes during production?

Minor tweaks during production we usually absorb. Major design changes mid-run reset the print queue and add cost - we’ll always tell you what the change implies before you commit to it.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment is accepted through PayPal.
